TRADITIONAL/CONVENTIONAL READING TECHNIQUE
According to dictionary “ cambridge “ (20012) traditional reading technique is a technique used to read a simple way of reading, a reading by the way how we easily understand the contents of the book. traditional reading techniques are also commonly used by people who just start learning to read. This technique is commonly used for early readers .The followingor belonging to the customs or ways of behaving that have continued in a group of people or society for along time without changing.
Robert S. Houghton and David Strahan in website (http://www.ncmsa.net) As forms of literacies have grown more complex, these six strategies have become even more important. Scribner and Coles (1981^) defined literacy as “a set of socially organized practices which make use of a symbol system and a technology for producing and disseminating it” (p. 236). This broad definition stretches nicely from the era of printed text through the era of cyberspace. In their introduction to Handbook of Adolescent Literacy Research, Christenbury, Bomer, and Smagorinsky (2009) present a strong rationale for using this definition of literacy to examine research on adolescent literacy. This definition frames literacy as a social process which occurs in a wide variety of settings, addresses a broad spectrum of symbol systems, and incorporates multiple technologies for composing and interpreting symbols. The studies reported in the handbook illuminate the complexity of this process and underscore the evolving nature of literacies as technologies change.
According to Xiao Weidong in website (http://www.chinaculture.org on April, 2012) Traditional reading is the text print-on-paper books. Traditional reading involves spending time and money buying it in a bookstore or ordering it online and waiting for its arrival by traditional delivery services.
Injwhile Robert S. Houghton and David Strahan in website (http://www.ncmsa.net) that With printed texts, readers can make predictions and then simply continue reading the static text previously constructed by the author, even if they are having trouble comprehending its meaning. The external text itself does not change from one reading to the next or from one reader to the next.

TRADITIONAL/ CONVENTIONAL READING TECHNIQUE
According to Evinda in Abstrac1, define the conventional reading technique “focused on translating grammatical forms, memorizing vocabulary, and learning rules in learning reading comprehension”. In my opinion its mean that traditional or conventional reading technique is the way or the process to read the text or the books that the reader give the attention for several things the first, to the meaning of the text but based on the context or based on the grammatical function not word by word, and the second is the reader try to memorize the vocabulary to get the main idea of the text and the last the reader must understand the text to reach the achievement of reading. In this strategy the reader can use reading strategies to maximize their comprehension of text, identify relevant and non-relevant information, and useless word-by-word comprehension.

Synthetic phonics fell out of favour in the 1960s and 1970s in favour of progressive 'child-centred' learning that was championed for decades by educationalists in the Labour movement. In a return to traditional/conventional methods, the students will be taught "from the ground up", first learning the 44 letter sounds of English and then how to blend or "synthesise" them to make words. All stedents can get the most out of learning to read using synthetic phonics.

TRADITIONAL READING TECHNIQUE :
Soedarso (2004: 4) states the traditional technique is reading techniques that have traditionally been carried out since the child learn to read. Since children learn to read a lesson read structurally, ie from left to right and observe each word carefully at the existing arrangement.
At the time of reading habits as children do the following: (1) move their lips to pronounce the word is read, (2) move his head from left to right, (3) using a finger or other object to point word by word. Unconscious habits as a child carried forward into adulthood. This is done as though it was customary or traditional in nature.

According to workshop.on.ca in traditional reading groups 1. Students are usually grouped according to general reading ability instead of specific instructional needs. 2. Students progress through a predetermined selection, collection, or sequence of texts. The material does not generally target specific skills. 3. Because the text has not been selected for the specific needs of a small group, relevant and necessary skills may not have been modelled or taught prior to the reading. 4. Students take turns reading the text aloud. Because students take turns, the group as a whole reads less text than a guided reading group does. 5. Students who are experiencing difficulty with reading tend to find the process stressful. Students focus on their own performance, and may tend to ignore the reading of others. 6. The focus is on the mechanics of reading. The teacher will generally “tell the word” when a student experiences difficulty, rather than support the student’s attempts to problem-solve by applying learned reading strategies. 7. Skills are developed through post-reading activities, often using a worksheet format, a process that does not support the scaffolding of comprehension and fluency skills.

We read from left to right. 2. We should teach the alphabet before we teach reading and spelling. 3. Whatever phonics is necessary to be taught should be taught in the first two grades. After that, phonics need not be taught. Children learn to read in the first two grades and then read to learn after that time.

Traditional reading involves spending time and money buying it in a bookstore or ordering it online and waiting for its arrival by traditional delivery services.

The external text itself does not change from one reading to the next or from one reader to the next.
here the readers read the text with skkiming or sccaning strategy and have the test method of reading instruction.

• Students are usually grouped according to general reading ability instead of specific instructional needs.
• Students progress through a predetermined selection, collection, or sequence of texts. The
material does not generally target specific skills.
• Because the text has not been selected for the specific needs of a small group, relevant and necessary skills may not have been modelled or taught prior to the reading.
• Students take turns reading the text aloud. Because students take turns, the group as a whole reads less text than a guided reading group does.
• Students who are experiencing difficulty with reading tend to find the process stressful. Students focus on their own performance, and may tend to ignore the reading of others.
• The focus is on the mechanics of reading. The teacher will generally “tell the word” when a student experiences difficulty, rather than support the student’s attempts to problem-solve by applying learned reading strategies.
• Skills are developed through post-reading activities, often using a worksheet format, a process that does not support the scaffolding of comprehension and fluency skills.

Wikipedia defines that traditional reading is the old way to read a text. It's means that the students sat quietly at their places and listened to one individual after another recite his or her lesson, until each had been called upon. Traditional education focuses on teaching, not learning. It's means that most of what we learn before, during, and after attending schools is learned.
Conventional reading technique is reading and writing practices that conform to the standard rules of grammar, punctuation. The student read from the various resouces, it can from internet , etc. It's means that the student not only read, the student also study vocabulary, sentence, and grammatical, and sentence structure.

According to Laura Clark (19 June 2007) that Traditional reading technique is the heart of reading lessons that focus on the the synthetic phonics.

According to workshop.on.ca in traditional reading groups
1. Students are usually grouped according to general reading ability
instead of specific instructional needs.
2. Students progress through a predetermined selection, collection, or
sequence of texts. The material does not generally target specific
skills.
3. Because the text has not been selected for the specific needs of a
small group, relevant and necessary skills may not have been modelled
or taught prior to the reading.
4. Students take turns reading the text aloud. Because students take
turns, the group as a whole reads less text than a guided reading
group does.
5. Students who are experiencing difficulty with reading tend to find the
process stressful. Students focus on their own performance, and may
tend to ignore the reading of others.
6. The focus is on the mechanics of reading. The teacher will generally
“tell the word” when a student experiences difficulty, rather than
support the student’s attempts to problem-solve by applying learned
reading strategies.
7. Skills are developed through post-reading activities, often using a
worksheet format, a process that does not support the scaffolding of
comprehension and fluency skills.

a few of the traditional concepts that almost all reading experts will agree on :
1. We read from left to right.
2. We should teach the alphabet before we teach reading and spelling.
3. Whatever phonics is necessary to be taught should be taught in the first two grades. After that, phonics need not be taught. Children learn to read in the first two grades and then read to learn after that time.

Lorraine Brennecke, Traditional reading techniques are defined as the read the basal text, do the worksheet, take the test method of reading instruction.
The writer suggests that the English teachers should apply Predictive Reading Technique in teaching reading comprehension as one of the alternative techniques especially because the students are led to be active, furthermore they have to interact with teacher and peers to draw their background knowledge to comprehend the text.
