    TRADITIONAL/CONVENTIONAL READING TECHNIQUE

According to Dole et al. (1991), in the traditional view of reading, novice readers acquire a set of hierarchically ordered sub-skills that sequentially build toward comprehension ability. Having mastered these skills, readers are viewed as experts who comprehend what they read.
Readers are passive recipients of information in the text. Meaning resides in the text and the reader has to reproduce meaning.

From the explanation, it can be stated that Traditional / Conventional Reading Technique is Traditional view of reading which focused on the printed from of a text and moving to the cognitive view and knowledge toward comprehension ability of reading. And readers are passive readers because they are just get information from the text, and readers make the meaning byself.

    TRADITIONAL/CONVENTIONAL READING TECHNIQUES

Laura Clark (2007) Traditional or Conventional technique in reading is where the students are though reading from the top till down. It means for the beginning the students are learn the sound from the content of the letter and then the way for them to making the sentences, this phase are called sound and letter. After that the students are learn about basic consonant, the purpose to make the students can read fluently and can work in their spelling.

From on the definition can I say if traditional or conventional reading technique is the way or the process to read the text or the books that the reader give the attention for several things the first, to the meaning of the text but based on the context or based on the grammatical function not word by word, and the second is the reader try to memorize the vocabulary to get the main idea of the text and the last the reader must understand the text to reach the achievement of reading. And this strategy the reader can use reading strategies to maximize their comprehension of text, identify relevant and non-relevant information, and useless word-by-word comprehension.

    TRADITIONAL/CONVENTIONAL READING TECHNIQUE

    According to AVKO (2007):
    In traditional reading technique:
    1. The students read from left to right.
    2. The teacher should teach the alphabet before they teach reading and spelling.
    3. Whatever phonics is necessary to be taught should be taught in the first two grades. After that, phonics need not be taught. Children learn to read in the first two grades and then read to learn after that time.

From the explanation above, it can be stated that in traditional reading, the students should know the reading text clearly and read it from left to right to get the point of the text. Then the teacher should teach the alphabet to make their student understand about the text.

    TRADITIONAL/CONVENTIONAL READING TECHNIQUE

    TRADITIONAL READING TECHNIQUE
According to London Evening Standart (2007): traditional reading technique is a study of synthetic phonics. Under the synthetic phonics system, children are taught the sounds that make up words rather than guess at entire words from pictures and story context.

From the explanation above, traditional reading technique is a way of learning to read using the sound that make up words.

    CONVENTIONAL READING TECHNIQUE
According to Photoreading Course in London, UK (2011): conventional reading technique is similar to speed reading. However, the major difference between speed reading and conventional reading is that with speed reading you learn to ignore irrelevant or repeated information as you look for ‘hot spots’ or ‘trigger words’ (key information).

From the statement above, conventional reading technique is a way of reading need the comprehension to get general information with the attention grammar, grammatical function, etc.

    TRADITIONAL / CONVENTIONAL READING TECHNIQUE

According to Zulva Evinda Conventional Technique (GTM) focused on translating grammatical forms, memorizing vocabulary, and learning rules in learning reading comprehension

It can be stated that conventional reading technique only focused on translating the text and then memorize the words from the text. It means the students just wait the material will be given by the teachers.

    TRADITIONAL READING TECHNIQUE

According to to Dole et al.

According to Nunan (1991), reading in this view is basically a matter of decoding a series of written symbols into their aural equivalents in the quest for making sense of the text. He referred to this process as the 'bottom-up' view of reading.

McCarthy (1999) has called this view 'outside-in' processing, referring to the idea that meaning exists in the printed page and is interpreted by the reader then taken in.

This model of reading has almost always been under attack as being insufficient and defective for the main reason that it relies on the formal features of the language, mainly words and structure.

    TRADITIONAL OR CONVENTIONAL READING TECHNIQUE

According to Diah Surya Adnyani, Luh (2009) Conventional reading technique means the students is assigned to read the passages and dealt with questions related to those passages. It can concluded that the conventional technique in reading is always started by reading the text and then there will be questions that the students must answer based on the text which is given. it also means that the students can not expant their knowledge by using conventional reading technique

According to Brennecke, traditional reading techniques are defined as the read the basal text, do the worksheet, take the test method of reading instruction.

Depends on the definition above, it can be conclude that in traditional or conventional reading, the reader reads the whole text , understand the idea of the text, and then answers the questions of the task.

    TRADITIONAL / CONVENTIONAL READING TECHNIQUE

According to Lorena Cassady, one of conventional reading technique is Grammar Translation, This is the oldest of the traditional methods, used in the 18th, 19th and early 20th century to teach classical Greek and Latin. Students study grammatical structure of the language and are given vocabulary lists to master, in addition to drills on verb formation and sentence structure. it can be implied that in this technique the students understand the text by translating the words one by one after that the students can answer the questions which appear from the text.

    TRADITINOAL OR CUNVENTIONAL READING TECHINIQUES

According to Kane Short & Peelin (2000). Some of the approaches now used to teach reading include the use of traditional phonics based programs as many of us were taught, whole language instruction in which students learn to read and understand literary concepts through literature, and guided reading which involves shared and guided reading and writing in whole groups, as well as small ability groups to learn literary concepts. In this study, we will be concentrating on the traditional programs and guided reading.

The studies of these methods in combination show that all students seem to improve, the most striking gains in were made in reading comprehension b the lowest achieving students. (Fisher, 2000).

    According to :Lorena Cassady (2012)
there are some technique for traditional reading :

    1.Grammar Translation
This is the oldest of the traditional methods,Students and teacher use their native language rather than the target language in class. Texts are translated merely as examples of grammatical structure and usage and pronunciation is not emphasized.
    2.Audio-Lingual
The method focuses on listening, speaking, reading and writing in that order. Vocabulary is strictly limited to the subject matter of the units, but pronunciation is practiced rigorously as students listen to native speakers and repeat sentences and words.
    3.Direct
First used in France and Germany in the early 20th century, the direct method uses only the target language and never uses translation.
    4. Communicative
This method is in wide use today and is based on communication rather than structure. It benefits beginning students because it involves them right away in speaking.

      TRADITIONAL/CONVENTIONAL READING TECHNIQUE

According to Lorraine Brennecke, Traditional reading techniques are defined as the read the basal text, do the worksheet, take the test method of reading instruction. Reading achievement is defined as an increase of reading skills as measured by the DRA.

From the definition it can be stated that traditional reading technique is reading about the basal text to take the main idea from the text using the method of reading instruction.
