    READABILITY TEST
According to By Cheryl Stephens, Readability describes the ease with which a document can be read. Readability tests, which are mathematical formulas, were designed to assess the suitability of books for students at particular grade levels or ages.
The tests were intended to help educators, librarians and publishers make decisions about purchase and sale of books. They were also meant to save time - because before the formula were used those decisions were made on recommendations of educators and librarians who read the books. These people were taking books already written and figuring out who were the appropriate reading groups.
And I think readability is a term used to describe the ease or difficulty of understanding a text. Readability is related to state clearly written or printed, easy, interesting, and fun to read so that the message the author is really up to the reader appropriately. and a readability level of reading material is measured from the readers. and level of readability is influenced by the vocabulary, sentence structure and content, content, typography, and illustrations are used.

    Readability tests
Readability tests and readability metrics are a way to measure the reading ease, comprehension, retention, reading speed, and reading persistence of a text. We do not write the same way for an audience of 14-years old or marketing specialist, for a scientific meeting or in a consent from in a hospital. Those tests will help you know if your writing meets your audience and your goal. The readability and grade level tests results are only valid according to the language of your text. For the other supported languages, the results given are a mere approximation. If you are regularly use this free service, you can help us making it better.
Mancko (2012) The main function of readability tests is to give you a quick assessment about the density of your writing. Readability tests cannot tell you how easily a reader can understand the information in the text.
You can perform readability tests manually by counting and doing a mathematical calculation, or by using word-processing software. There are several popular readability indexes, for example:
    • Gunning Fog Index
    • Flesch Reading Ease Scale
    • Flesch-Kincaid Grade Index

Word processing applications often have readability tests built-in, which can be deployed on documents in-editing.Some readability formulas refer to a list of words graded for difficulty. These formulas attempt to overcome the fact that some words, like "television", are well known to younger children, but have many syllables. In practice, however, the utility of simple word and sentence length measures make them more popular for readability formulas.Scores are compared with scales based on judged linguistic difficulty or reading grade level. Many readability formulas measure word length in syllables rather than letters, but only SMOG has a computerized readability program incorporating an accurate syllable counter.Since readability formulas do not directly take syntactic or semantic complexity into account, they are not considered definitive measures of readability.

We can dissect the term “readability” into “read+ability”, that can translate into the ability to read. In fact, readability is more of a judgemental exercise for the taget audiences. George Klare (1963) defines readability as the pleasure of understanding right to the writing style. We can consider readability as measure of the accessibility of a text that imdicated how effectively reach the target audiences.
We can acces readability by readability tests by applying readability formulas. Readability formulas are mathematical in nature. The purpose is to measure the level of students to read and comprehend the text. Most readability formulas are based on one semantic factor, for example the difficult words, and the difficult sentences in the text.

Wikipedia (2012) defines that Readability is the quality of writing that makes it easy (or difficult) to read and understand. Readability of a particular text is measured using certain formulas. These are matched against the reading level of the audience. These are not absolute but a general blinker for the reading friendliness of a written text. A tool that’s close by for readability analysis is in MS Word itself. MS Word uses two measuring scales like the Flesch Reading Ease and the Flesch-Kincaid Grade Level. That’s handy but it makes checking of webpages a bit difficult. Here’s where a few readability web tools can help out. Also, most of these tools give a few more readability scores to tally your work against.

      2. Readability formulas do not require the (targeted) readers to

According to Cheryl Stephens, Readability Test means a test is designed to know or to measure whether a book is readable ( fit to be read, interesting, agreeable and attractive in style, and enjoyable ) for the reader or not. It also helps the librarians and publisher make a decision about purchase and sale of book. To measure certain feature of a text can uses the mathematical formula, but not all the features can be measured mathematically.

The factors to measure readability have been used, such as : speed of perception, perceptibility at a distance, the reflex blink technique, speed of reading, eye movements, and fatigue in reading. Readability is distinguished from legibility which is a measure of how easily individual letters or characters can be distinguished from each other. Readability can determine the ease in which computer program code can be read by humans, such as through embedded documentation.

The term readability refers to the difficulty or ease with which a text is read.
According Rudolf Flesch Readability tests are designed to indicate comprehension difficulty when reading a passage of contemporary academic English.
Readability test consist of two test. There are the Flesch Reading Ease and the Flesch–Kincaid Grade Level. Although they use the same core measures (word length and sentence length), they have different weighting factors, so the results of the two tests correlate approximately inversely: a text with a comparatively high score on the Reading Ease test should have a lower score on the Grade Level test.

Now that readability scores are easy to obtain by using computerized grammar and style checking software programs, there is new pressure to adopt them. While some people use readability tests to help them make their writing plainer, other people are fervently opposed to their use.

    1. Fit to be read: its mean that the texts or the books must have the right function for the readers
    2. Interesting: its mean that the texts or the books can take the attention of the readers, and make the reader focus to the text or the books.

According the Gnome Project, The main function of readability tests is to give us a quick assessment about the density of our writing. Readability tests cannot tell us how easily a reader can understand the information in the text.
We can perform readability tests manually by counting and doing a mathematical calculation, or by using word-processing software. There are several popular readability indexes, for example:
    • Gunning Fog Index
The Gunning Fog Index gives the number of years of education that reader needs to understand the paragraph.
    • Flesch Reading Ease Scale
The higher the score, the easier the text is to understand. Aim to maximize the score.
    • Flesch-Kincaid Grade Index
This index computes readability based on the average number of syllables per word and the average number of words per sentence.

According to wiki (2011) readibility test is the way to know, to measure the difficulty of the text which will read, is it easy or hard to read. Readibility test give a prediction how difficult readers will find particular text.
We can measure from word difficulty which usually measure by vocabulary list, word length, and sentence difficulty. Sentence difficulty usually measure by sentence length, because longer sentence, on average, harder than short sentence.
It is possible to measure with use multiple-choice questions, or using cloze method where subject (student or people) fill in blanks on the text which they have not seen before.

    READABILITY TEST

According to Wikipedia (2012) Readability tests, readability formulas, or readability metrics are formulae for evaluating the readability of text, usually by counting syllables, words, and sentences. Readability tests are often used as an alternative to conducting an actual statistical survey of human readers of the subject text (a readability survey). Word processing applications often have readability tests built-in, which can be deployed on documents in-editing.

The application of a useful readability test protocol will give a rough indication of a work's readability, with accuracy increasing when finding the average readability of a large number of works. The tests generate a score based on characteristics such as statistical average word length (which is used as an unreliable proxy for semantic difficulty) and sentence length (as an unreliable proxy for syntactic complexity) of the work.

Some readability formulas refer to a list of words graded for difficulty. These formulas attempt to overcome the fact that some words, like "television", are well known to younger children, but have many syllables. In practice, however, the utility of simple word and sentence length measures make them more popular for readability formulas.[citation needed] Scores are compared with scales based on judged linguistic difficulty or reading grade level. Many readability formulas measure word length in syllables rather than letters, but only SMOG has a computerized readability program incorporating an accurate syllable counter.

Since readability formulas do not directly take syntactic or semantic complexity into account, they are not considered definitive measures of readability.

    READABILITY TEST

    BASED ON WIKIPEDIA :

Readability tests are designed to indicate comprehension difficulty when reading a passage of contemporary academic English. There are two tests, the Flesch Reading Easiness, and the Flesch-Kincaid Grade Level. Although They use the same core measures (word length and sentence length), They have different weighting factors, so the results of the two tests correlate approximately inversely: a text with a comparatively high score on the Reading Ease test should have a lower score on the Grade Level test.

    READABILITY TEST

According to Cheryl Stephens, Readability is a convenience and the ability to read the information contained in atext or text. The use of readability tests aim to help or make the text clearer andintent of a text or text. From there, we can see how the process should be used in simplelanguage, so we can conclude that openness is an ability to obtain any information or knowledge to quickly and easily.

Mancko (2012) said in website that Readability test is a way to measure the reading ease, comprehension, retention, reading speed, and reading persistence of a text.
The readability and grade level tests results are only valid according to the language of your text.
In English text there are two types of Readability tests. There are :
    1. Flesch-Kincaid Reading Ease
    2. Lix formula
    Grade level tests
    1. Automated Readability Index
    2. Coleman-Liau Index
    3. Flesch-Kincaid Grade Level

readability tests have been designed as mathematical equations which correlate measurable elements of writing - such as the number of personal pronouns in the text, the average number of syllables in words or number of words in sentences in the text.
Factors like these are usually described as "semantic" if they concern the word used and "syntactic" if they concern the length or structure of sentences. Both semantic and syntactic elements are surface-level features of the text, and do not take into account any the nature of the topic or

Readability test is a test to know how ease a reader can understand the reading material. Three method usually used are Gunning Fox Index, Flesch Reading Ease Scale, Flesch-Kincaid Grade Index. The Gunning Fog Index gives the number of years of education that your reader needs to understand the paragraph. Flesch Reading Ease Scale measure readability. The higher the score, the easier it is to understand the document. Flesch-Kincaid Grade Index ,This index computes readability based on the average number of syllables per word and the average number of words per sentence. The score indicates the number of years of combined primary and secondary education that a reader needs to understand a text.

    My opinion ,,
Readability test is very difficult to gauge programatically (at least to any degree of accuracy). However, this type of quick test can help to point out to a writer when they are over-complicating things. Some of us are not lucky enough to always write perfectly, and need a little help making sure what we post to the web is easy to read.

then,Readability tests, readability formulas, or readability metrics are formulae for evaluating the readability of text, usually by counting syllables, words, and sentences. Readability tests are often used as an alternative to conducting an actual statistical survey of human readers of the subject text (a readability survey). Word processing applications often have readability tests built-in, which can be deployed on documents in-editing.
