    READING COMPREHENSION CONCEPTS

According to Basri (2011), reading comprehension is the ability of processing the written or passages from what has been read, and develop and construct the ideas in main department on the experience or prior knowledge of the reader, to understand and to find out the information in text.

In my opinion based on the expert:
Reading comprehension is the ability in the process of understanding of what has been read before, and how the readers can understand the information from the text.
Example : Readers may use some strategies maybe; Making Connections between books they read to their own lives.

Comprehension is active and intentional thinking in which the meaning is constructed through interactions between the text and the reader (Durkin, 1973).
Reading is process of mentally interpreting written symbols.
According to jennifer(2012) Reading comprehension is essentially the ability to understand what has been read.
According to Partnership for Reading (2005), Reading comprehension is understanding a text that is read, or the process of "constructing meaning" from a text. Comprehension is a "construction process" because it involves all of the elements of the reading process working together as a text is read to create a representation of the text in the reader's mind.

In my opinion base on experts :
Reading comprehension is ability to understand a text that is read.Or the process of constructing meaning.through interaction between the text and the reader is actively and intentional thinking.

    READING COMPREHENSION CONCEPT
 Reading is the process of constructing meaning from written texts. It is a complex skill requiring the coordination of a number of interrelated sources of information (Anderson et al., 1985).
 Comprehension: the complex cognitive process involving the intentional interaction between reader and text to extract meaning.
 Reading comprehension - techniques for improving students' success in extracting useful knowledge from text (Mayer, p 34)
 According to Partnership for Reading (2005). Reading comprehension is understanding a text that is read, or the process of "constructing meaning" from a text. Comprehension is a "construction process" because it involves all of the elements of the reading process working together as a text is read to create a representation of the text in the reader's mind.
     Concept of comprehension :
    • Explicit Information is information that can be clearly found "right there" in the text.

    • Text Features are words and pictures that help organize and highlight information. Examples include headlines, photographs, and captions.
    • Classify & Categorize: Categorize is when you gather together information that is the same or almost the same. Classify is when you give that information a name.
    • Fact & Opinion: Fact is information that someone can prove true or false. Opinion is what someone believes about a subject.

    READING COMPREHENSION CONCEPT

According to Wikipedia.com (2012). Reading comprehension is defined as the level of understanding of a text. This understanding comes from the interaction between the words that are written and how they trigger knowledge outside the text.

College atlas (2004) say that there are Basics of Improving Reading Comprehension

    I. PREVIEW: Develop an understanding of what you’ll be reading by briefly previewing it.
II. ACTIVE READING: Active readers ask questions, locate answers, and keep notes of key concepts.

In my opinion base on experts:

reading comprehension is how the reader can understand a reading text and can understand the contents of the text.

  9. Reading comprehension concept

Reading comprehension is a complete understanding that involves many levels of processing for constructing meaning through interaction and involvement with written language. One of the most basic aspects of comprehension is the ability to deal with unfamiliar words encountered in text.
    (McQuirter, 2010)

Reading comprehension is divided into three elements

    • The reader who is doing the comprehending
    • The text that is to be comprehended
    • The activity in which comprehension is part

    Reading comprehension concept

According to Steve(2009), comprehension is the only reason for reading. Without comprehension, reading is a frustrating, pointless exercise in word.

Reading comprehension concept based on of :
    - reading as the application of a set of isolated skills such identifying words.
    - Finding main ideas identifying cause and effect relationships.
    - Comparing and contrasting and sequencing.

In my opinion, reading comprehension is no exaggeration to say that how well students develop the ability to comprehend what they read has a profound effect on their entire lives. Reading comprehension can help to students develop the knowledge, skills, and experiences they must have if they are to become competent and enthusiastic readers.

  15. According to Yosta (2011). He defines in his article that reading comprehension is a complex process in which the reader uses his ability to find information. It means that the reader must be able to comprehend the meaning of printed words.
Simanjuntak (1998) states that reading comprehension is not just reading with aloud voice but reading is established to understand the meaning of words, sentences, and paragraph as well as sense relationship among the ideas.
From those definitions I get the point that reading comprehension is when the readers read the text and they have to be able to get the information clearly about the text. The readers can understand what the text is about.

    Reading comprehension concept
According to Clara Wong Kee (1997: 9) states that reading comprehension is a process of making sense of a written text. However, it is not a passive one-way decoding process. Instead, it is an active two-way process in which the reader and the text interact ie. the reader tests clues from the text against his knowledge to arrive at an understanding of the text acceptable to the reader.
According to Simanjuntak (1998: 4) states that reading comprehension is not just reading with aloud voice but reading is established to understand the meaning of words, sentences, and paragraph as well as sense relationship among the ideas. Whenever a student just read loudly but cannot understand the content of the text, it means that he fails in comprehending the passage
According to University of Oregon there are Factors that Impact Reading Comprehension :

Reader Based Factors Text Based Factors
     Phonemic Awareness
     Alphabetic Understanding
     Fluency with the Code
     Vocabulary knowledge
     Prior knowledge
 Engagement and interest  Narrative v. Expository
     Genre considerations
     Quality of text
 Density and difficulty of concepts

  22. Reading Comprehension
According to Sheldon H. Horowitz (2011). Reading Comprehension is clear that reading comprehension is a complex cognitive process that depends upon a number of ingredients all working together in a synchronous, even automatic way. Vocabulary clearly plays a critical role in understanding what has been read. The reader must also be intentional and thoughtful while reading, monitoring the words and their meaning as reading progresses. And the reader must apply reading comprehension strategies as ways to be sure that what is being read matches their expectations and builds on their growing body of knowledge that is being stored for immediate or future reference.
In my opiniAccessed on on based on expert, reading comprehension is a complex cognitive process that depends on vocabulary. The reader must also be intentional and thoughtful while reading. And the reader have to use strategies to read the text to make sure that reader can get information or knowledge
