B. PQRST technique in understanding the application of a short story
A student can be said to understand a short story if the student is able to name the elements in a short story that has been read and can retell the contents of the short story has been read.
In understanding a short story by reading the PQRST technique can be done several stages, namely:
1. Prepare (P), in this stage can be asked to students skimming the title of a short story will be read and the author of short stories.
2. Question (Q), in this stage students can be made several questions relating to the elements of short stories short story or message to be read, among others can be asked about how the plot of short stories or what moral values are we going to take after reading the short story
3. Read (R), n this stage students are asked to read the all reading of short stories based on the few questions that have been made so that before students read, students are able to know what information they should look for in a short story they are going to read.
4. Summarize (S), after reading the short story is done, students then create a summary that relates to what has been read and in this stage, students are able to provide some answers to questions that are made but in the form of back story or synopsis.
5. Test (T), in this stage of learning of teachers as mentors recheck the summary of students and in this stage can be used as an assessment of whether students have understood or not.
After doing some stage, a teacher can see students if they have the ability to understand the short story or not. Usually, things that can be used as a benchmark to measure the ability of students is Test stage, because if the summary of questions and answers that have been made are correct reading, it can be said that the students' skills in understanding the short story is increased or contrary.
From these explanations, it can be concluded that in improving students' understanding of reading short stories, the PQRST technique can be used. This technique involves Prepare, Question, Read, Summarize and Test.
